[...] Sarah Pinborough: Sarah is a versatile writer who writes in many genres, including YA, sf, horror and crime – or combining all of the above. I can particularly recommend her “Dog-Faced Gods” trilogy. Set in a near-future dystopian London, the main character is a paranormal investigator looking into a series of crimes. It becomes clear that there is something supernatural involved.
I've always loved cats - the ornier the better, of course. I had gone several years without them after moving to Georgia when, one day, a gorgeous red tabby showed up outside the door, announcing he was home. So, he moved in. A couple years later we were contemplating bringing in another cat, and had actually decided against it when a neighbor called - he'd found a feral litter, they needed a home and I brought them home. Two adorable little boys, still needing me to feed them. My older tom, to my INTENSE surprise, took over as nanny - washing their ears and butts and generally making sure they were clean and watched over. There are occasional scuffles as the bigger of the "babies" decides he might be #1 cat and gets put into his place, or when he and the elder tom both decide that, since there are no ladies available, the little fluffy boy will do well enough, and he naturally objects, but overall they live here, in this teeny little place, in harmony. Most of the time it is the eldest who keeps me company in the bedroom, although the little fluffy one will show up in here to hang out sometimes; when the eldest abandons me for long enough, the other "baby" will come in for a week or so to hang out with me, but he always ends up chased out by the elder. Heh. I love my boys, and two of them love me. The third? He owns my husband and that's it, and just 'cause he's fluffy don't think you can cuddle him, 'cause he'll cry about it ... X-D

Yup, cats are the best. The dog ... meh. He's an idiot. Although I would enjoy a little pocket pup at some point, 'cause they're just fun.

Great blog! More! ;-)

I found this via Melissa Wiley. And I have to tell you, as I was reading through the post, I kept waiting for the Moment. You know, the one where you revealed something horrible. That Swayne Britt did something awful to a child. :-(

I blame the years I spent working in the trauma counselling field. I've seen so much misery and horror, it's hard to believe there is, or ever was, innocent goodness in the world. Another commenter said bad news gets told because it's exceptional - sadly, that's not true. There is much MORE evil the public never hears about, because it is unreported to the police, or unreported to the media (most personal assault cases have a "do not release to the media" stamp put on them).

I don't understand why society is deteriorating so badly. Of course there has always been violence between adults, and you could even say in some ways we are more peaceful - fewer wars - but the increase in personal crimes against children is bewildering and tragic.

I'm glad you had such a man in your life. He sounds truly magical indeed. And I know men like him still must exist. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful memory.

I just finished The Shadow of the Soul last weekend, and The Dog-Faced Gods Trilogy is a great series of books. It's a shame that you aren't very well known outside the UK (I'm Dutch). I also read Into the Silence, and I have a small question about it. Is Tom Cutler a kind of early version of Cass Jones? I noticed several characteristics that both Cutler and Jones have (smoker, cynical view on the world). I'm just interested in it.
